THINGS THAT ARE DUMB: Ticket trap stopped

Making intersections safer is definitely a large part of Vision Zero. However, it doesn't make much sense for traffic agents to be assigned to intersections for the sole purpose of jumping in front of motorists' cars and issuing tickets instead of preventing gridlock and protecting pedestrians by directing traffic. This is exactly what was happening in September on Metropolitan Avenue at 60th Street on the Maspeth-Ridgewood border. This intersection, along with Metro-Eliot Aves and Metro- Forest Aves have been plagued with poorly timed lights for decades. A story about the ticket trap aired on September 21st and by the next day the agents were yanked from this location. It's time the City came up with a permanent fix for this stretch of Metro instead of just using it to collect revenue.
