BERRY BITS: $8M allocated to Midville sewer project

The August flooding we experienced is actually a recurring problem that has been going on for decades. The Penelope Ave sewer replacement was supposed to prevent this from happening, however, years of delays, capped by the discovery of contaminated soil on 74th Street have resulted in millions more dollars being necessary in order to complete the project. The City claimed it didn't know exactly how much would be required and didn't have money on hand to cover it, and the project was expected to be delayed indefinitely. However, an embarrassing August 15th expose by the NY Post that detailed how badly residents were suffering from repeated sewage floods inside their homes due to delays in the project resulted in the Mayor's Office announcing that $8M was being allocated and that the sewer replacement should be completed by the end of the year. But the contractor believes that it will require another full year of work to get the whole thing done. Brace yourselves, we're in for what looks to be a very long, bumpy ride.
