Things That Are Dumb: No one asked for this, part 1

Bioswales were installed along 82nd Place and Dry Harbor Road and at Caldwell Ave and 61st Drive in Middle Village in December. The locations of both have many scratching their heads. The city actually took away parking spaces in order to bump out the curbs to accommodate the rain gardens. There were no reports of flooding at these locations and most homeowners in the vicinity of both maintain lawns and gardens on their property, making excess runoff unlikely. DOT and DEP jointly make determinations on where to place the bioswales. It's unsettling that not one, but two city agencies thought this was a great idea.
