Amazing Neighborhood Stories: Smothered to Death in Queens Swamp ‒

A party of berry pickers found the body of a man in Juniper Swamp, near Marion Street, Maspeth, Queens, yesterday. The skull fell from the trunk when policemen lifted it. Apparently it had been exposed to the elements since early last Spring. The absence of shoes or stockings led the police to believe that the man had tried to cross the swamp removing his foot covering to do so and had fallen in such a way that he was smothered.
