On the morning of June 22, Penelope Ave and 82nd Place was named after Lt. Henry Schmiemann. The lieutenant’s grandson, also named Henry Schmiemann, was given his grandfather’s patrolman shield number during the ceremony. The co-naming was cosponsored by JPCA, the Newtown Historical Society and Council Member Robert Holden.
Twenty-three years after 9/11/2001, we remember the souls lost that day, continue to comfort the families they left behind, and rejoice in the indomitable spirit of America. Let us vow to not only never forget, but to always recognize the bravery of our first responders.
