Beast Feast
Well-meaning people feed pigeons, but they don’t need our help to survive. They are wild birds and can be left to their own devices. Feeding pigeons just leads to an explosion of the pigeon population, which roosts in local underpasses, where they make a mess with their droppings. Not to mention throwing copious amounts of bread or rice also feeds rats. Please stop this behavior.
MTA cleaning delay
There is only one subway station in Middle Village (for now), and it is frequently covered in graffiti. Each station is assigned to a manager that is supposed to handle cleanliness, but all too often the MTA waits until a member of the public complains before they do anything about it. Once a complaint is received, it takes way too long for them to act. There also are frequently garbage bags piled high at the curb in the bus stop area in proximity to a food cart waiting for pickup when there is an alcove that can be utilized for that purpose right next to the station. And why isn’t the MTA containerizing its trash the way its riders are expected to?
Ghastly graffiti
The graffiti on this fence at Metropolitan and Nurge Avenues has been building up for some time. The property has been listed for sale for years. At one point, there were plans to build housing on it, but that never came to fruition, so it’s being used as storage. Some black spray paint would go a long way toward making this less offensive to the eye. Perhaps ACE or Greater Ridgewood Restoration Corporation can put this on their list of locations to address since the owner has abandoned their responsibility to maintain the property.
