Thankfully, the vast majority of property owners and residents in Middle Village & Maspeth take pride in the appearance and well-being of our neighborhood. But a few have a total disregard for our area. So we induct them into this month’s Hall of Shame.

Dishonest Living
There is this silly notion in our community that illegal car washes are “an honest living” but that assertion falls apart when you point out that many operate off city hydrants while the average business owner pays for water, and don’t pay taxes or licensing fees. When you see these pop up, call 311 immediately, or send it to us or Council Member Holden, and we’ll deal with it.

Magical Mystery Van
This van is sitting by Pep Boys but they’re not working on it. A front tire is missing, the seats have been ripped out and left strewn about the sidewalk, windows are missing or dislodged, and much of the insides are gone. The vehicle was involved in some kind of accident in June and was seized and marked by the 104th Pct, but now it has reappeared as dead storage on the street, and if its owner doesn’t want to move it, the City should.

Dead Storage Driveway
Speaking of dead storage, this car, stored on a residential driveway in front of a garage that likely hasn’t been opened in years, qualifies as such. The car is missing a back tire and has been there so long that weeds are growing next to it. We surely can do better.
