The laughable regulations for Accessory Dwelling Units, or ADUs as per City of Yes, have been released. Some of the rules are:
• Only one ADU per each 1- or 2- family residence
• The homeowner must reside on the zoning lot with the ADU
Who is checking to see if the owner lives in the home? What happens when they inevitably flip the property and move out? Will the building be subject to higher taxes and insurance once it has a higher unit count? What about registering with Housing Preservation and Development as is required of all 3+ unit buildings, which makes it subject to a whole other set of rules?
All of this is exceedingly vague… and dumb.
