There are signs at Brennan Field prohibiting wheels on the track to protect it from damage, but the local kids don’t seem to be getting the message. They congregate there and ride on the loop dedicated to walkers, joggers, and runners. The tires rip up the track, which was only completed four years ago. One preschooler was knocked down and had her arm run over by a bike tire. (photo, right) When adults try to correct them, the kids curse at them. One confrontation even ended in violence. When parents are alerted, they come up with lame replies like, “There’s nowhere for them to ride safely.” These are the same kids seen weaving in and out of traffic, so safety is a false concern. “There’s nothing for them to do” is another stupid claim. The park is full of amenities for all types of recreation, not to mention we have libraries and after-school programs to keep kids engaged and prevent boredom. How did kids of generations past keep themselves occupied?
Stop the excuses and tell your kids to knock it off.
