We were happy to see that relay mailbox locks were being replaced with padlocks to prevent mail theft. However, several doors have been observed agape, with latches but no locks. If the post office is not locking them when they are empty, it invites people to place trash inside the boxes. If the locks are missing because someone cut them and stole the mail, then that is a bigger issue. It’s also dumb that the postal service advises local residents to sign up for informed delivery, then doesn’t allow registration by people who live in multi-unit buildings if the house only has one mailbox. That is what we have been told is the reason why most of Maspeth and Middle Village is ineligible for this service.
