A New Rail Line May Come to New York. Will a Housing Boom Follow? (Gift Article)
www.nytimes.com
The Interborough Express, a rail line connecting Brooklyn and Queens, could spur the building of tens of thousands of homes. Obstacles await.Imagine middle village looking like Queens Blvd
I bet everyone saying there's no housing shortage are long time home owners. In the old days you used to budget 1/3 of your income for housing. Today it's well over 1/2 for new home owners and renters.
There is an affordable housing shortage. Wise rezoning and building near public transportation makes sense. As much as we'd like to hold onto the past Queens is no longer the suburbs.
Mike Quigley
How can you build new housing without zoning laws being changed? Most people don't want the Eliot Avenue stop. Grand Avenue is in Elmhurst. Metropolitan Avenue is next to a school, cemetery, and a mall.
Do we really need this?
Housing boom will never followโฆ it never does especially in MV. We have less people than we did in the 70โs in NYC by about a million plus and 750K more housing units than we had back then. The population keeps shrinking and middle class families along with wealthy upper class and billionaire investors are moving out in droves and accelerating the process. It doesnโt make any sense, we donโt have a housing shortage, itโs total BS. Additionally I donโt need Zohran coming to visit me from East New York or Flatbushโฆ not necessary and not welcome. Hey Zohran Kwame Mamdani learn how to spell Middle Village. Thatโs M I D D L E V I L L A G E because youโll never see it in your life time.
