“Just wanted to bring to your attention that the parking lot at CVS located at 61-15 Metropolitan Avenue seems to be collapsing. Normally it’s a “management needs to fix it” issue, but it’s sitting on a bridge over the LIRR so maybe there’s some structural issue going on. The photo attached was taken this week, but the cave-in started about a year ago when they just had a traffic cone there and then it slowly progressed.
The link below shows you the platform structure that was built over it last year in September. There is a DOT truck in the parking lot but I don’t know if that was a coincidence or if they were there to address this. When DOT bolstered the underside of the intersection some years back I don’t know if this section was part of it.

In addition, it’s in such a bad location within the entrance to the lot that it could lead to accidents as cars swerve around it.” – JPCA
Response:
“I checked on the parking lot hole at CVS at 6115 Metropolitan Avenue, which has plywood over it and barricades around it, on Monday, 2/3/25. I then spoke to the store Manager, Milad. He said that the LIRR put down the wood over the hole and the barricades, and, to his knowledge repair of the hole in the freight rail bridge deck is the responsibility of the LIRR.
I reached out to our contact at LIRR, and am informed by them that the hole in the deck is the responsibility of the property owner, unless they have transferred that responsibility to CVS. LIRR is aware of the problem.
I have to go to the store to speak with the manager again, because when calling, unless I have a prescription to fill, the phone keeps ringing and ringing.
I let you know how all this progresses.”
