According to Council Member Holden, the School Construction Authority is interested in possibly acquiring the Cooper Avenue homeless shelter site for a new school. There are questions about contamination and whether or not the owner will comply, but he hopes all of the concerns will be worked out and that the school knocks the shelter proposal off the table. We have been told that the school proposal is 90% approved by the SCA and that only one signature is still needed in order for the project to start the land use process that would eventually result in the school being built. Confirmation of this would be a great holiday gift to Glendale but could open the door to a shelter at the PS9 site in Maspeth, a scenario which is discussed on page 74.
