Unlike traditional asphalt paved roadways, porous pavement allows storm water to pass through and be absorbed naturally into the ground. This means less storm water drains into the sewer system, which will help to prevent flooding, sewer backups into homes and businesses, and overflows into waterways. It was announced in mid-July that neighborhoods in Brooklyn will have porous pavement installed along 7 miles of streets. So, the question is, when will it be installed here? We certainly have our share of flooding. Or will it be more of the same, “No infrastructure upgrades for you!”
