After decades of trying to correct the northern most boundary of Middle Village it appears that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Queens Postmaster William Rogers, Congressman Joe Crowley, Congressman Anthony Weiner, and an overwhelming number of residents, have given their support to extend the border of Middle Village to the Long Island Expressway instead of the existing and confusing border of Eliot Avenue.
Residents living north of Eliot Avenue and –south of the LIE–from 74th Street to 86th Street, have long lived in what has long been described as the lost community.
Of course the move is applauded by the vast majority of residents living on the forgotten blocks. In fact over 93% of the people responding to the recently mailed ballot from Senator Serf Maltese support the change. The numbers: 959 in favor, 64 opposed, 8 neutral.
The people have spoken! Congressman Crowley, Senator Maltese and JPCA President Robert Holden will be meeting this month with Queens Postmaster William Rogers. Stay tuned.
