Councilman Tony Avella was honored by the Juniper Park Civic Association on Thursday evening, June 21st. Mr. Avella was named Man of the Year for all he has done on behalf of the communities of Middle Village, Maspeth and the rest of Queens.

In addition, Anthony Como, representing State Senator Serphin Maltese, presented a legislative proclamation to the councilman congratulating him on his achievements.

Also honored were:

Richard Polgar, who voluntarily paints over graffiti-covered mailboxes in the area, Deputy Inspector Scott Shanley, who for three years commanded and cleaned up the 104th precinct, and Parks Enforcement Patrolman Rico Albacarys, who kept Juniper Valley Park safe for several years. Shanley and Albacarys were recently reassigned to different areas of the city. We thank them for their service. They will be missed.
