An NYPD lieutenant who was shot during a robbery while walking to work in Queens 50 years ago had a street renamed in his honor today – as his NYPD officer grandson received a shield with his numbe...Today we participated in the 82nd Place street co-naming for Lt. Henry Schmiemann with all 5 of his children. He died in the line of duty in Middle Village in 1974. His grandson, also named Henry Schmiemann, seen in uniform, received his grandfather's shield number during the ceremony.
This Red-tailed Hawk was spotted acting ill at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Thank you to NYC Bird Alliance for sending its Raptor Response Team, which brought the bird to a veterinary facility for medical attention.
