Tony Nunziato, representing the Juniper Park Civic Association, accepted the 2008 Neighborhood Preservation Award from the Four Borough Neighborhood Preservation Alliance at the awards ceremony which took place at the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site on East 20th Street in Manhattan on the evening of October 23rd. The award honored JPCA for its 2-year long battle vs. a development company that sought to demolish St. Saviour's Church in Maspeth, built in 1847 by world-renowned architect, Richard Upjohn. In April of this year, the structure was thoroughly documented by preservation architects, dismantled by hand and is now in storage awaiting preparation of its new home at nearby All Faiths Cemetery.
