Greetings to all members of the Juniper Park Civic Association! As this is my first submission as the new Commanding Officer of the 104th Precinct, I would like to take this time to express my excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to work in this community with such great relationships and support from our local civic associations.

Just a little about myself, I have been a Captain here in Queens North for the past 2 years and even spent time in the 104th Precinct as the Executive Officer, under Deputy Inspector Chowdhury. I previously spent time in the 109th Precinct, also as the Executive Officer under the leadership of Inspector Coleman. I am very happy to be back as the Commanding Officer.

As most of you have already seen, there was a recent car meetup at Eliot Ave & 69th Street. Our officers and I were quick to respond, in fact responding within 3 minutes of the first 911 call. At this time, we can only provide a brief update as the investigation remains ongoing. However, I am proud to report that the 104th Precinct Detective Squad has arrested two individuals thus far.

Throughout the 104th Precinct, we have had a slight increase of overall crime by 4.4% for the year-to-date period and an increase of 2% for the 28-day period. To speak on Middle Village, more specifically, we have seen a decrease of 27.5% for the 28-day period. Moving over to Maspeth we have seen an overall increase in crime of 26.7% for the 28-day period.

We would like to make you aware of a recent JEWELRY SCAM we have seen throughout the 104th Precinct and Queens. Be aware if you are approached by a stranger complimenting your jewelry or asking to bless your jewelry, be aware it is a SCAM. Strangers will approach you and speak about your jewelry, ask to give you a hug and with the slightest of hand and distraction techniques, remove your watch, necklace, bracelet, or any other jewelry you might be wearing. Please be aware of these recent crimes and wear your jewelry covered or tucked in. You may already be aware of this recent scam, but please help us spread the word. Be sure to tell your family, friends and neighbors about this scam. The more people we can get the word out to, the more we can prevent these crimes from taking place.

As the Commanding Officer, one of my top priorities is your Quality of Life. Our Officers are out in the community answering 311 requests, focusing on illegal mopeds & dirtbikes, noise, and parking complaints. This year we have issued over 640 summonses to illegal mopeds and confiscated over 110 mopeds from recklessly driving on our streets and plan to keep our aggressive approach throughout the summer months. We will be paying special attention to all our parks this summer as we gear up for the nice weather, expect to see our Officers and our Auxiliary Officers out and about in Juniper Park. We want to help everyone have a safe and fun summer.

A huge congratulations to our very own Community Affairs Officer – Dilsia Bonilla – on her well-deserved promotion to DETECTIVE! Detective Bonilla is a huge asset to both the precinct & the community within the 104 Precinct & is instrumental in all facets of the 104’s successes!

We would like to thank the Juniper Park Civic Association for the continued support of the 104th Precinct as we work together to help serve the community. As you hear us say all the time, community and policing go hand in hand, and the 104th Precinct is appreciative of the support from the community.
