After the November election, Governor Kathy Hochul rushed to reverse herself and bring congestion pricing back. Hochul initially declared a “pause” on enacting congestion pricing, an MTA-funding plan to charge motorists who enter Manhattan below 60th Street, because she feared it would have a detrimental effect on Democrats in competitive congressional races. Instead of charging $15, Hochul is now suggesting $9. The MTA and Biden Administration quickly approved the new plan, which is set to go into effect January 5. Former President Donald Trump vowed to eliminate congestion pricing if he returned to the White House, and that happens January 20, so stay tuned.
