Samaritan Village, the entity behind the proposal for the homeless shelter at 78-16 Cooper Avenue, was slammed in an audit by State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli in early March. DiNapoli’s auditors found that “Samaritan Village charged the state $973,881 for unallowable, inappropriate, questionable or undocumented expenses.”
State Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi sent a letter to Mayor Bill DeBlasio and Community Board 5 sent a letter to City Comptroller Scott Stringer calling attention to the audit and again asking that the contract between the City and Samaritan Village for the shelter be rejected.
The Forum West newspaper reported March 6th that City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi, Assemblyman Mike Miller and Rep. Grace Meng have been invited to an April meeting with the Department of Homeless Services regarding the homeless shelter proposal.
