We welcome a new business to our area, Eliot Hill Barber Shop, and it is owned by Giacomo Giacalone, who grew up in
Middle Village and is the son of a barber. Jack, as he is known, decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and one year ago when the store across the street from Our Lady of Hope School in Middle Village became available he decided to rent it and open his own business. Jack told me he still helps his father a couple of days a week in his barber shop but he is delighted to have his own business and is looking forward to many years here in Middle Village.
Jack is a friendly, personable guy who went to all the local schools and graduated from Grover Cleveland High School. He is married and has two kids. He now lives in Bayside but he confided the fact that his wife, who comes from Bayside, likes Middle Village better because of its close sense of community. I add this parenthetically but I hear the words “sense of community” very often when people talk about Middle Village and I guess it speaks to the fact that so many second, third and even fourth generation kids are resettling in the area. Jack said he loves it when customers come into his store and their faces are familiar. Because he grew up here he knows many of the people and much of his following is from his loyal childhood friends.
Eliot Hill Barber is a modern, clean shop with the full range of services that you would expect and the prices are competitive. Hair cuts are $9, $8 for seniors and $8 for kids under 10 years old. Jack said they also do face massages and hot towel shaves which are popular services designed to add a little TLC to the run of the mill barber
visit. Eliot Hill has two other employees and is open seven days a week. Why don’t you give them a visit and let them fuss over you. Patronizing a guy who grew up in this neighborhood and decided to make his life’s work on our streets is the best way to say “thank you” for his vote of
confidence in the neighborhood.
Good luck Giacomo Giacalone, you are a dedicated hard worker and we’re glad you chose Middle Village to make your living.
