The Metropolitan Museum of Art rents out 109,000 sq ft of storage space at the Metro Mall but their lease is up in July of this year. There is also 190,000 sq ft of vacant space on the ground floor, which was formerly occupied by Toys R Us and K Mart. It was reported by several news outlets in late February that Amazon will be renting all of the empty space – roughly 300,000 square feet – bringing the mall to full occupancy. We do not know if the extra loading docks in front of the building that Rentar Plaza petitioned CB5 and DOT for are still in the works and we are not sure whether the location will be used for retail, warehousing, a distribution center or a combination of these, but it will certainly bring more jobs and traffic to the area.
