On Saturday, October 20th, The Juniper Park Civic Association, in conjunction with Queens Recreation, Department of Parks, was proud to present the first-ever Halloween festival for kids in Juniper Valley Park. With over 400 kids and 1,000 people in attendance, the day consisted of free hayrides, games, a costume and dance contest with prizes, bags of candy, face painting and costumed storyteller Catfish Jim. The JPCA feels it is important, in light of the recent disaster, to surround our kids with a sense of community and hope. It was the idea of Tiffany Elliott who worked for weeks to make this event one of the highlights of the year. Laura Gilli of the Parks Department did an outstanding job in arranging the attractions. Tiffany Elliott promises to continue the tradition of Halloween Kids Festivals in the park. Within the last few months in addition to the Halloween Festival, Tiffany has organized a children’s readings and Kids Anti-Crime Day. Special thanks to our generous local contributors: Congressman Joseph Crowley, Dennis Gallagher for City Council, Cardsmart, Cross County Federal Savings, The Little Sweet Shoppe, FunStuff, Harry’s Hardware, Artis Drugs, Stop & Shop, New Village Market and Jive Records.
