The proliferation of illegal signs posted on public property continues to plague many ares of NYC. In an effort to deal with the problem the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has asked community groups and residents to help remove the signs posted on utility poles, signs and other public places. Dubbed “Operation Sign Off” is an attempt by the City of New York to address the problem. However the Juniper Park Civic Association feels that stiff fines for posting these illegal sings may be the ultimate deterrent. “If these posters were tracked down through their phone numbers and fined the practice would ultimately stop,” said Robert Holden, president of the JPCA.
