The $2.1 million Lutheran Avenue Sewer Project funded by Council Member Thomas Ognibene has begun. The project is designed to alleviate many of the flooding conditions prevalent throughout Middle Village. The project will expand the pumping chambers that will allow easier flow of wastewater through the system, which will alleviate street flooding and residential home flooding.

Additionally, the infamous Lutheran Avenue “bumps” around the manhole covers will be corrected.

Council Member Ognibene has also initiated a Department of Environmental Protection study to determine if there are any areas where residents may be still at risk of flooding because of inadequate sewers or the need to have additional catch basins installed.

The Juniper Park Civic Association and its members wish to thank the Council Member for insuring that this project was funded and for his persistence in following up and making arrangements with Conrail to allow access under the railroad. Otherwise, this project would not have been completed until the year 2000.
