This year, the Newtown Historical Society participated in 17 co-naming ceremonies in conjunction with Juniper Park Civic Association, Woodhaven Cultural and Historical Society, and Council Members Robert Holden, Joanne Ariola, Tiffany Caban, and Linda Lee.

Together, we honored:

1 WWI veteran • 1 WWII veteran • 1 FDNY Captain • 1 NYPD Sergeant
1 NYPD Lieutenant • 1 NYPD Detective • 1 School Safety Agent
3 NYPD Police Officers • 7 NYPD Patrolmen

WE HAVE ONE UPCOMING CO-NAMING WHICH WE WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU ALL TO.
Patrolman Joseph Rauchut, NYPD – Saturday, December 14, 12 noon at 43 Street and 48 Avenue, at Maspeth Park. Rauchut was a WWII POW and member of NYPD Highway 2 who died in a collision on the Kosciuszko Bridge. The date was chosen to fall on what would have been his 100th birthday. His great-grandson just recently graduated from the police academy. We will have a reception following the ceremony at historic Clinton Hall.
We’ll have more to look forward to in 2025. If you know someone who is deceased, contributed greatly to our community, and you feel is deserving of an honorary street co-naming, please reach out to us at (718) 366-3715.
