There’s nothing like having a greasy spoon to stop at on your way to or from the subway. The Red Top Diner was located at 86-08 Queens Blvd and in the 1930s it catered to those entering and exiting the Grand Ave-Newtown Station which was steps away. By the time this photo was taken at the end of the decade, the diner was being advertised as available by local realtor George Lutz whose office was in the building to the far left. Working in the building alongside Lutz was William Savacool, city surveyor. A professional office building stood to the diner’s right. Today, the building at left still sports a billboard, although now it is a story taller and houses a Chinese restaurant at ground level. Replacing the diner is a Dunkin’ store. And Raymour and Flanigan furniture is sold at the corner.
