We hope everyone is enjoying their summer as we quickly approach the end of the sea- son. We would like to take this time to speak on some current trends we have seen here in the 104th Precinct and more specifically in Middle Village and Maspeth.
Throughout the 104th Precinct, we are proud to report a decrease in overall crime by 26.3% for the 28-day period and a decrease of 17.4% for the year. To speak on Middle Village more specifically, we have seen an overall decrease of 29.2% for the 28-day period and decrease of 13.5% for the year. Moving over to Maspeth, we have seen an uptick of 13% for the 28-day period mainly due to auto theft; however, for the year, we have a decrease of 13.3% in overall crime. We attribute some of this decrease in crime to our partnership with the community and Juniper Park Civic Association. Thank you for working with us in helping to spread the word and share our crime prevention tips to members of the community. We would like to take this time to update everyone regarding the assault that took place at Juniper Valley Park in late July. Thanks to the community for all the tips and information that was provided to the Precinct and the great work by our Detective Squad, we were able to make three arrests related to the incident. As you know we cannot do this alone, community and policing go hand in hand, and this particular incident is an example.
We continue to urge everyone to utilize our crime prevention tips to help in continuing to drive crime down. Please do not leave any valuables in your vehicle and continue to lock your vehicles. As you hear us say all the time, we continue to remind everyone not to leave your vehicle running with the keys inside it, even if it’s just for a quick moment. If you see something, say something, please do not hesitate to call 911 or to file a police report with the precinct. The more we know as a precinct the better we can address an issue.
The 104th Precinct sends a sincere thank you to all those who helped make this year’s National Night Out Against Crime a huge success. Once again, we had one of the largest turnouts throughout the city. As always please feel free to write or call the precinct with any issues you may have. We hope to see everyone soon when we can finally have an in-person Juniper Park Civic Association meeting. Please continue to stay safe and healthy while enjoying the remainder of the summer.
