The Juniper Park Civic Association (JPCA) has reached out to Senator Joe Addabbo to push for improvements on the LIRR bridge over Woodhaven Blvd and Eliot Ave. The bridge was constructed in 1909 and has long outgrown its use according to Bob Holden, JPCA president. “Of course the bridge should be replaced with a wider structure but there are improvements that must be made immediately especially to the east pedestrian walkway,” said Holden. The walkway is much too narrow to allow two people passing in each direction, much too narrow for handicap access and to add insult to injury, the LIRR installed two billboards in the 2.5 ft. walkway that further inhibits pedestrians. Senator Addabbo wrote a letter to the NYC Department of Transportation asking that they look into it. DOT said it’s the LIRR’s problem,
not theirs.
