One of Bob Holden’s final acts as council member was to draw attention to the event spaces throughout the area operating illegally or being disorderly. These spaces have had a flurry of 311 calls; some have resulted in fines or arrests. Holden’s (now Phil Wong’s) office is in regular communication with NYPD, the NYC Office of Nightlife, the NYC Department of Buildings, FDNY, the NYC Sheriff and the State Liquor Authority. Prior to leaving office, Holden requested the formation of a permanent task force comprised of these agencies to facilitate ongoing monitoring and enhance quality of life and public safety. Let’s hope the City heeds his call.
