The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application and Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan from Animal Care and Control of New York City, Inc. for a site known as Queens Animal Shelter and Care Center, site ID #C241230. This site is located in the Ridgewood neighborhood at 151 Woodward Avenue. The City Council mandated that each borough have its own full-service animal shelter years ago. Queens lagged behind the others, which all already either have shelters in operation or plans in place to build. Middle Village will be home to a temporary intake center at 69th Street and Metropolitan Avenue until the full-service shelter is built in Ridgewood.
