On April 27th, the Newtown Historical Society conducted an historic tour of the western end of Forest Park, including its historic greenhouse. The greenhouse is only open one day a year with the tour arranged to coincide with this event. Participants made stops at and learned about Strack Pond, the Carousel, the Seuffert Bandshell, Oak Ridge, the Memorial Tree Grove, the greatly altered Bourcier Mansion and the Dry Harbor Playground before taking a self-guided tour of the greenhouse. Many were thrilled to get inside Oak Ridge, originally built as a clubhouse for the golf course in 1905 and now used as an event space and office for the Administration of Highland & Forest Parks. Local celebrities encountered on the tour included Portia Dyrenforth, Administrator of Highland & Forest Parks, who graciously arranged access to Oak Ridge and CB5 Chair Vincent Arcuri. The Society hopes to make this tour an annual event.
