Steve Fisher took a photo of a beautiful Magnolia Warbler in his backyard this past spring. We have a lot of nature around us, we just have to pay attention.

Did you know that a long running court battle ended in January giving New York merchants the right to charge an extra 4% to your credit card purchases as long as pricing is clear. Instead, they are just slipping in these sneaky fees. Happened to me twice at a local restaurant and a car dealer servicing my car. Watch your bills carefully when paying by credit.

Also, for your information. The City of New York must have a complaint on file abut a damaged public sidewalk before it can be held responsible for any injuries it may cause. So, if you take a bad fall on a cracked sidewalk and it was not called in to the city, there is no claim. Report your broken sidewalks to www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/faq/423 or dial 311.

If you drive up 80th Street and pass Juniper Valley Park any afternoon after 2pm, you can’t help noticing a group of guys playing shuffle board with four beautiful American Flags flying (two on each end of their court). They maintain their small piece of the park themselves and play in all types of weather conditions. They have a small locker for their equipment and cushions on the bench. Dieter Keppler and his wife Gloria tell me that they have shoveled snow off the court many times. Egon Calon who is 93 has played here for twenty years and Erwiin Klie who is 83 for nineteen years. Erwin brings the coffee every day. Recently, the ladies have joined the group, and all enjoy the outdoors in our beautiful Juniper Valley Park.
