In May of 1974 busy volunteer Jean Moran, a former church secretary, started this “well-kept-secret” playgroup in Maspeth. It is an enriching program that accepts children of any faith, for even though it is a ministry of the church, it is non-denominational. Truly family oriented, this program accepts any children under 5 and their siblings, as it is integrated with all ages. Jean feels that this is not only helpful to the Moms who have several children at home but also to the kids themselves who get the chance to interact with different age levels.

The playgroup is run cheerfully and almost school-like with its schedule, 45 minutes of free-play with blocks and bikes is followed by a themed and seasonal story time and craft, followed by a snack. The caregivers get in on the action also, whether having jobs such as setting up for snack or having coffee and cake with the other Moms. Several class trips are taken yearly, professional class photographs are offered and there is also an end of year graduation ceremony for those going off to kindergarten.
