The evening of January 22, every Queens Boulevard subway line came to a standstill after a bedbug was spotted at a control tower at 71st-Continental Avenues. The MTA says the tower needed to be evacuated in order to fumigate it which prevented necessary personnel from being present to supervise the switches that allow the trains to turn around. However, only the M & R trains turn around there and run on a separate track from the express lines. Why E & F trains were also affected isn’t clear. But what is clear is that there needs to be a contingency plan to prevent this from happening again.
