Richard Huber, a Glendale representative appointed to Community Board 5 and Jennifer Chu, an Elmhurst representative appointed to Community Board 4, were unceremoniously dumped from their positions by their respective council members, Crowley and Dromm, (with an assist from Borough President Melinda Katz) without explanation. One thing both have in common is their opposition to proposed local homeless shelters – Chu organized rallies and petitions in opposition to the Pan Am shelter and Huber publicly criticized the lackluster efforts by local elected officials with regard to fighting the Cooper Avenue shelter. It's pretty dumb for the borough president to hand out plaques in honor of years of service to a community board when members are regularly 86'ed for speaking their minds with regard to issues of concern.
