Comptroller Scott Stringer released a report in August that revealed that ~50% of complaints about illegal curb cuts went unanswered by the City. The DOB is responsible for responding to these complaints, which violate the zoning code. Paving over a front yard was outlawed in 2007 and all curb cuts must be authorized by the DOB and DOT. The report recommends better training for inspectors. In the past we were told that we needed proof of when the curb cut was created or the front yard was paved, but with Google Maps technology nowadays, it’s easier to pinpoint when a change occurred. The City stands to coup ~$500K in fines by enforcing the current codes.
