Last year when MTA changed local bus routes, I forwarded my attached complaint to selected MTA officials, Council Member Holden and other community groups.

Replacing the upper half of the Q38 with the Q14 is a mistake, especially with no easy transfer point.  In my September report, I referred to the incorrect Bus Stop signs claiming you can transfer at Metropolitan and Fresh Pond.  The only change I have seen is that the incorrect signs have been replaced with generic ones not even mentioning the Q14.  Ideally full resumption of the old Q38 Route is the best solution; at a minimum a single point Transfer between the two lines is needed.

I am near 80, retired from FDNY, and have medical issues including a military disability. I am a
frequent bus user and walking is a hardship. The Eliot Avenue part of the Q38 line allowed one-seat access to a few doctors, pharmacies, and other shopping.  Now, especially with the frigid cold spell, waiting for transfers is unbearable.  These buses are normally scheduled at about 20-minute intervals.  I have waited over 45 minutes for one bus – double that for the second bus.

Please try to see that improvements can be made here. I would gladly cooperate with CM Wong’s office in this respect.

In 2000 a nearby bus stop on the Q38 was discontinued, I did a study of that problem which emphasized the line’s importance.  Along with other Community input, the missing bus stop was restored.  I hope a suitable solution can be made with the current Q38 – Q14 problem.
