On Tuesday December 21, 2004 Our Lady of Hope’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and Students Helping Others – United Together (SHOUT) programs went to the Midway Nursing Home. There are about 179 people in the home. We all wrote two Happy Holiday cards for each resident in the nursing home. When we arrived at the nursing home, our teacher, Mrs. Listner handed out song sheets to all of the students from the NJHS and S.H.O.U.T programs. We sung to the elderly that were able to join the program in the visitor’s center. We sang such songs as Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman.
After we were done singing we left all the elderly a fruit basket, cookies and brownies, which we all helped make. We had to leave them on the table because some of the elderly were not allowed to eat the sugar or were not able to chew the cookies. Before we left we saw all the faces of the elderly and they were just smiling and were very happy that we came to visit them. We felt great that we did such a nice thing during the holiday season.
