February 18, 1956 The New York Times • A former deputy Collector of Internal Revenue was indicted yesterday by a Federal grand jury on charges of receiving $12,339 in refunds by filing sixty false applications for 1953 and 1954.
The defendant is George H. Oetting Jr., 41 years old of 66-57 Pleasantview Street, Middle Village, Queens. He was a deputy collector from 1943 to 1947. During the last few years he has represented himself as a tax consultant.
Assistant United States Attorney Arthur H. Christy said Oetting had filed the returns in the name of fictitious taxpayers usually at his own address. Mr. Christy said the investigation was continuing and sixty more fictitious returns might have been filed by the defendant.
