The maximum fine of $500 was imposed yesterday upon the Raw Milk Company of Middle Village, convicted in Special Sessions, Manhattan, of selling inferior milk. It was shown that on Sept 1, 1921, the concern distributed as Grade A, milk which had been skimmed and watered. Harry Danziger, secretary of the company, claimed this was due to a defect in the bottling apparatus. He said the absence of a mixer caused the first bottles filled to have an excess of cream, while the latter ones contained less than would be the case if the apparatus was working properly. Justice O’Keefe, presiding, said this explanation might have had an effect on the court were it not for Information received from the District Attorney’s office that the company has been convicted sixteen times for similar offenses.
