Police have arrested a suspect who killed a man in the subway last April. Mark Albano, 34, was charged May 9th with the murder of a homeless man on April 23rd at the Grand Avenue-Newtown station on Queens Blvd. The motive was not clear. Albano was further charged in two other unrelated stabbings in Elmhurst.
Thank you to all the residents of District 30 including Maspeth, Middle Village, Glendale, Rego Park, Elmhurst and Ridgewood, as well as the former residents of Woodhaven and Woodside, for allowing me to serve you over the past 8 years and for more than 30 years as a civic leader, Little League coach, and Community Board member. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime.
We had many successes together, including bringing millions of your tax dollars back into the district for parks, schools, infrastructure, and quality of life improvements. We did not get everything done that we set out to accomplish, but we made real progress together and left the district better than we found it.
I wish my successor, Phil Wong, the very best, and I have full confidence in him and the staff who will continue working hard every day for you. I’ll still be around and hope you will stay in touch. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year.
