Micro-tunneling work was performed along 70th Street between Calamus and 52nd Avenues in May to prep for sewer line installation. In addition, manhole installation and other work was performed on 70th Street between 52nd and 54th avenues, at the intersection of 70th Street and 54th Avenue, and on Grand Avenue between 71st and Mazeau Streets. Installation of watermain valves also took place on 69th Street between 48th Avenue and Queens Boulevard. Sometime in the future, a 96-inch sewer main will be installed north along 71st Street, underneath the rail freight tracks and under the Long Island Expressway where it will head into Middle Village. The constant disruption is frustrating, but once all this sewer work is complete, both Maspeth and Middle Village are expected to see a reduction in flooding during and after bad storms.
