Crain’s New York Business reported in September that NYC Parks was looking to purchase an $18M property owned by Tesla in western Maspeth. The parcel of land sits at 48-26 54 Road across the street from 4th Calvary Cemetery and one small block of homes. Otherwise, it’s in a completely industrial area. Tesla built the parking lot and even went so far as to draw parking spaces, but never installed the charging stations. We’re not sure what happened to Tesla’s plan, or why the City would want to build a park there rather than allow it to remain a tax generating property, considering it rejected the St. Saviour’s site as a park which would have cost far less money and benefited far more residents.
