A rare visitor to these parts caused some excitement recently. A Western Kingbird showed up at All Faiths Cemetery in mid-October. The name “kingbird” was bestowed upon the species due to the bird’s aggressiveness. Kingbirds are known to defend their territory and will even go after hawks that get too close. Their typical feeding behavior is to wait on open perches, such as gravestones, and fly out to catch insects. This bird is believed to have moved on after a few days to a warmer climate.
