Ready! Set! Get Fit!
Kore Pilates Studio is located on Eliot Avenue in Middle Village and opened in September, 2007. The owners, Josephine and Declan McErlean, are friendly and energetic professionals who have extensive experience, not just in “exercising” but in a wide range of professional areas, including sports conditioning, lymphatic therapy, physical therapy and pre-natal and post-partum conditioning, to name but a few of what Mr. & Mrs. McErlean are qualified to teach. They are experienced and licensed Pilates instructors both with extensive rehabilitation backgrounds.
Kore Pilates offers Pilates with classic mat work and Pilates machine work. They offer Spin classes, a great way to get in your cardio workout. They offer pre-natal and post-partum workouts to help prepare you for childbirth and to get back into shape once the baby arrives. They offer strength training and personal training classes as well as private one-on-one training. I had the opportunity to watch a class and was amazed at the energy and positive motivation provided by Josephine and Declan.
I spoke with Mr. & Mrs. McErlean and asked them what motivated them to open Kore Pilates here in Middle Village. They noted that they felt that the community needed a cost-effective workout geared toward wellness and wanted to provide the best possible workout studio they could. With their combined extensive knowledge, experience and training in so many areas of health and wellness, they felt more than qualified to run this Studio and provide their services to the Middle Village community. Josephine noted that “Everyone should be able to afford to be able to take care of themselves.” They offer many types of workouts, including group classes, one-on-one training, Pilates classes, Spin classes, cardio workouts and private sessions.
The Pilates workout was introduced by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, and was originally geared toward training boxers, dancers and gymnasts. Pilates exercises work toward making you flexible and to strengthen your core muscles, key in maintaining good balance and posture and avoiding injuries to your back and neck. The machines assist you in achieving the movements associated with Pilates.
The age range of their students is 20 to 60 years. They also work with teens who need rehabilitation work or who simply want to stay fit and in shape.
Josephine has experience in working with cancer patients who are recovering, which includes lymphatic therapy. They work with athletes to keep them in top physical shape. Josephine also has experience in vestibular therapy and in helping people who have traumatic brain and neurological disorders.
Kore Pilates is open 7 days a week, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a different type of “gym”. Its open, well-lit studio with wood floors and sleek machines are an invitation to get fit and healthy. The owners will work one-on-one with you to help you achieve your physical and therapeutic goals. I’m happy to see a studio like this here in our own neighborhood and urge you to check them out and get fit!
