We might change this section of the magazine to Things that are Dromm after this one – Council Member Daniel Dromm, who represents South Elmhurst as part of his district, has introduced a bill that would allow green card holders the right to vote in NYC elections. Although the issue is being framed as a matter of “fairness” it’s really being done to keep NYC a one-party city and to keep politicians’ pockets lined with campaign cash. We would love to know where Danny thinks we are going to get the money to set up a separate system to track who can vote in just local municipal elections, since state and federal law prohibits non-citizen voting and this bill would have no bearing on that. Another question which needs to be answered is whether this bill would allow non-citizens to donate to local candidates, which is currently prohibited. We suspect that the answer is yes and that is the drive behind this proposal.
