Comptroller Scott Stringer took a look at lawsuits filed by pedestrians against the city over the past 8 years. Filing against the city means that a city vehicle was involved in the accident. In total, the City (aka taxpayers) paid $88M for the negligence of city drivers. The Daily News reported in October: “Many of the accidents with garbage trucks have taken place in the Queens Community Board 5 district, which encompasses Maspeth, Middle Village, Glendale and Ridgewood. The area had eight accidents, according to the report.” Why garbage trucks are hitting pedestrians in our area is a good question, but the fact that it’s happening at all is just dumb.
