Several people have inquired about the status of St. John’s Queens Hospital. Some were concerned that it might also be converted into a homeless shelter since the project has been stalled for a while and the property changed hands a couple of times since the hospital closed in 2009. The Queens Courier reported November 20, “Construction on most of the apartments is almost complete and appliances have already been brought into some of the units.” The garage across Hoffman Drive will be used by the tenants of the building as well as the businesses. Leasing is expected to start in early 2015. The owners are also negotiating agreements with a private school and a senior center and have received interest from a supermarket, gym and retail clothing company as reported by the Courier.
